The Parliament of Georgia considered in the I reading and adopted, with 80 votes in favor, the draft Administrative Offences Code, prepared with the aim of reducing fines imposed for exceeding established speed limits.

The draft law was presented at the plenary session by Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Legal Issues Committee.

According to the presenter, the amendments will also affect the driving licence demerit points system. Specifically: exceeding the speed limit by more than 15 km/h but not more than 30 km/h will result in the deduction of 10 points from the driver's 100-point licence record (where the fine is issued by a patrol police crew); exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h but not more than 50 km/h will also result in a deduction of 10 points, instead of the current 20 points; exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h will result in a deduction of 20 points.

The draft law is being considered by Parliament under an expedited procedure.
