The Sports Committee Held an Off-site sitting in Akhaltsikhe Municipality

The Sports Committee, together with the Sports Minister, the State Trustee in the Samtskhe–Javakheti region, and the mayors of the municipalities, discussed issues related to the development of sports and sports infrastructure in the region at the Akhaltsikhe Sports Complex.

The State Trustee Zaal Gelashvili and the mayors of the municipalities presented information on ongoing and completed sports infrastructure projects in the region. It was noted that the construction of additional artificial-turf stadiums and multifunctional sports complexes is planned in the municipalities. The speakers also addressed sporting achievements and the encouragement of successful athletes, who are awarded appropriate monetary prizes.

The Sports Committee and the Sports Minister positively assessed the information presented. According to the Minister, Shalva Gogoladze, along with sporting achievements, representatives of local municipalities highlighted the problems and challenges related to sports development at the municipal level. He stated that the Ministry is actively working with local self-government representatives on these issues.

According to the Chair of the Sports Committee, Viktor Sanikidze, the Committee members received interesting and important information during the off-site meeting. He further noted that the state has developed a targeted policy for sports development, as evidenced by the Prime Minister’s initiative to construct multifunctional sports complexes in 64 municipalities.

“Our goal is to promote youth engagement in sports in Georgia and to promote various types of sports. As a result of the development of sports infrastructure, different sports will become more accessible to young people and to our future generations”, - stated Viktor Sanikidze.

As part of the off-site meeting, Committee members, the Minister, and representatives of the local authorities inspected existing sports infrastructure in Akhaltsikhe Municipality, including the Akhaltsikhe Multifunctional Sports Complex, the central stadium, and the gyms under construction for karate, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and basketball.
