The Procedural Issues Committee Reviewed the Authenticity of Signatures Supporting a Petition

The Procedural Issues Committee reviewed the issue of verifying the authenticity of signatures supporting a petition submitted to the Parliament of Georgia.

The petition was submitted by a citizen of Georgia, Mariam Bokhua, and concerns amendments to the Law “On General Education,” specifically the introduction of an exceptional rule to modify the age threshold established for first-grade children for the 2026–2027 academic year.

According to the Chair of the Committee, David Matikashvili, the review established that out of 523 signatures, 15 were submitted in violation of the requirements, while the remaining signatures comply with the requirements of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.

He stated that 508 signatures are valid, which exceeds the minimum number of valid signatures required by the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, namely 300.

He noted that the petition meets the standards set by the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.

The conclusion of the Procedural Issues Committee will be forwarded to the Bureau of the Parliament for further action.
